Roles & Responsibilities

Role Summary/ Purpose

The Controls & Electrical Instrumentations Engineer – Field Service role is a field-based role which requires the incumbent to travel to customer sites across the APAC region to provide specialist installation and maintenance support as directed by his Resource Manager. The role will report to the Resource Manager for SEA region.

Essential Responsibilities

As a Baker Hughes Controls & Electrical Instrumentations Engineer – Field Service you will represent Baker Hughes both technically and professionally to ensure that equipment is installed, maintained and started properly. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working independently or leading a team of field services with direction from the Service Manager/Installation Manager/Site Manager/Engineering to support installation services for Baker Hughes/GE Aero derivatives Gas Turbine (LM2500) /Heavy Duty Gas Turbines/Nuovo Pignone Compressors (BCL Compressors) /Pumps/Auxiliaries in customer owned sites in remote shipyards, oilfields, industrial facilities, and LNG plants.
  • Extensive experience in control support and at least 3 years of experience as lead controls for outages, shutdowns, minor and major maintenance, startup, and commissioning related to Baker Hughes/GE Aero derivatives Gas Turbines/Heavy Duty Gas Turbines/Steam Turbines/Nuovo Pignone Compressors/Pumps/Auxiliaries in oil & gas platforms.
  • Managing electrical and instrumentation related activities such as outages, services, installation, startup, and commissioning support.
  • Expert knowledge of Gas Turbine Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems including GE Mark Vie, Woodward Netcon, Micronet, Micronet Plus, & PLC Allen Bradley controls systems.
  • Acting as the focal point for controls commissioning between customers and the internal Baker Hughes project management team.
  • Performing electrical & instrumentation tasks while managing the commissioning of equipment with current control systems.
  • Providing customers with technical direction and support on the calibration, repair, and operation of instrumentation and controls equipment.
  • Implementing conversions, modifications, and upgrades to gas turbine controls systems including software upgrades and major retrofits.
  • Troubleshooting, reinstalling, testing, evaluating, calibrating, and maintaining instruments or devices upon completion of repairs.
  • Recording and reporting abnormal functions or out of tolerance conditions of equipment and initiating corrective actions.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams.
  • Following proper customer/company schedule targets with a focus on quality and HSE rules during installation, maintenance, and commissioning site activities.
  • Utilizing problem-solving skills, engineering instructions, drawings, and process instructions during gas turbines commissioning and startup activities.
  • Preparing job-planning documents based on assignment's scope of work.
  • Communicating effectively with service/installation/project managers and site leaders regarding job planning and execution.
  • Providing input for daily, weekly, and final reports for outages and installation projects.
  • Preparing timely and accurate technical reports for customer records and as reference for future outages.
  • Actively participating in customer and/or contractor meetings and promoting their recurrence and following action plans.
  • Establishing critical activity tasks and remarking any HSE aspects to be followed through the immediate report after the daily HSE toolbox talk.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality procedures and documentation applicable to specific activities.
  • Ensuring the Red Flag Review process for new units installation is followed and applied.
  • Ensuring site quality checklists/job cards/field procedures are followed and properly signed.
  • Ensuring all RCA and lessons learned are addressed properly.
  • Addressing all non-conformities (technical and materials) using BHGE e-tools and following up until resolution.
  • Ensuring compliance with local/current legislation, requests, and requirements present in the site safety manual.
  • Willing to actively participate in NPI (New Product Introduction) training to acquire multiskilling.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Possess an Engineering Degree or Technical Diploma in Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering.
  • At least three (3) years of work experience.
  • Significant work experience, preferably in the energy or oil & gas industry.
  • Demonstrated experience as lead field engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of Baker Hughes/GE Aeroderivatives Gas Turbine/Heavy Duty Gas Turbines/Steam Turbines/Compressors/Auxiliaries installation & maintenance philosophy.
  • Fluent oral and written English.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Focus on health, safety, and environmental mindset and compliance.
