Job summary

Energy Market Authority (EMA) in Singapore is strengthening its data analytics, modelling and digital integration capabilities. The Data & AI Department (DAD) is expanding to meet growing analytical needs and to support evidence-based policy and regulatory decision-making.

The role focuses on applying statistics and data science to high-frequency and granular energy datasets, developing models, and delivering insights for planning, policy formulation and international reporting obligations.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of working experience in data analytics, forecasting or AI/ML projects.
• Education in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, or related quantitative disciplines.
• Knowledge of energy sector is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, coordination and written/verbal communication skills are essential.
• Experience with SAS, SQL, Python, and/or R for data science applications.
• Independent problem-solving mindset and ability to work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced analytics and data science methods to high-frequency, locational and system data to inform policy and regulatory decision-making.
• Conduct exploratory, diagnostic and predictive analyses to identify trends and generate actionable insights.
• Develop and enhance statistical and forecasting models to support planning and decision-making.
• Strengthen statistical reporting through visualization tools and high-frequency energy statistics dissemination.

[What the role is]

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is strengthening its capabilities in data analytics, modelling and digital integration to better support Singapore’s evolving energy landscape. As part of EMA’s strategic shift toward deeper policy–tech integration and more responsive, data‑driven decision making, the Data & AI Department (DAD) is expanding its capabilities to meet growing analytical and modelling needs.

In this role, you will leverage your expertise in statistics and data science to generate insights from complex datasets, support evidence-based policy and regulatory decision-making, and enhance EMA’s analytical and modelling capabilities across the energy sector. The key responsibilities of the officer include:

• Apply advanced analytics, statistical techniques and data science methods to uncover insights from high-frequency, locational, sectoral and system datasets, supporting policy formulation, regulatory reviews, operational planning and strategic decision-making.
• Conduct exploratory, diagnostic and predictive analyses to identify trends, evaluate policy and market interventions, assess emerging issues, and generate actionable insights on energy demand, supply, markets, consumer behaviour and the energy transition.
• Develop and enhance statistical, econometric, machine learning and forecasting models to analyse key drivers and project demand, supply, costs, emissions and other energy‑related outcomes under different scenarios to support planning and decision‑making.
• Strengthen EMA’s statistical and reporting capabilities through the development of visualisation and analytical tools, and enhance the production, publication and sharing of high‑frequency and granular energy statistics to support public information needs, Whole-of‑Government decision‑making, and international reporting obligations.

[What we are looking for]

• Minimum 5 to 8 years of working experience in handling data analytics, forecasting or AI/ML projects. Education in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, or other related disciplines with substantial quantitative content should apply.
• Knowledge in energy sector would be an advantage.
• Excellent analytical, coordination and communication (written and verbal) skills are critical for this position.
• Applicants must possess an independent problem-solving mindset with a strong desire to find innovative and ‘out of the box’ solutions to problems.
• Applicants must have experience with using SAS, SQL, Python, R and/or any other major programming language for data science and applications.
