Job summary

Manpower Singapore is seeking a Component Repair Technician (NDT/Welding/CNC) in Changi to provide repair solutions for aero gas turbine components. The role requires hands-on experience in NDT, welding, and 5-axis CNC machining within an MRO or OEM overhaul environment.

The ideal candidate will hold a technical diploma or apprenticeship, relevant welding certifications, and be proficient in reading engineering drawings and OEM manuals.

Qualifications

• Technical diploma or apprenticeship in machining, welding, aerospace manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
• Current welding certification(s) relevant to aerospace (e.g., AWS D17.1, EN 1418) in GTAW/TIG welding on nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steels.
• CNC programming and operation certification for 5-axis machining (Mastercam, Siemens NX, or OEM-specific).
• Nadcap or AS9100 experience or equivalent aerospace standard familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Plant setup and familiarization with new equipment.
• Verify machines, utilities and safety; run trials and validations.
• Support MES, SOPs; assist with 5S, audits and documentation.
• Perform first live repair with engineering and ensure adherence to overhaul manuals.
• Train for new procedures and maintain high workmanship standards.
• Keep workstations clean and comply with safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Plant Setup & Operational Phase

• Training and familiarization with the new equipment.
• Verify machines, utilities and safety.
• Run trials, validation and functional checks.
• Support MES, SOP
• Validate HSE control and ergonomics
• Audit prep, 5S, coordination and documentation.
• Preparing for training for new employees
• Execute first live repair with engineering
• Ensuring that all work carried out is performed in accordance with the current approved overhaul/engine manuals or other OEM work instructions.
• Making every effort to train and learn new skills required to perform duties effectively and efficiently.
• Ensuring that the standard of workmanship is kept at the highest level.
• Making sure that the respective workstations and work areas are kept clean.
• Making certain that all relevant safety procedures are strictly complied with.
• Maintaining, and always using the correct tools/equipment and hand tools when performing daily tasks.
• Always maintaining the highest standard of discipline.
• Actively supporting and promoting continuous improvement as a way of life and in specific programs/activities within the company.
• Other duties as assigned by the respective Cell or work area supervisor or Team Leader.

Requirements

• Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or equivalent in machining, welding, aerospace manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
• Current welding certification(s) relevant to aerospace (e.g., AWS D17.1, EN 1418, or OEM-specific) in GTAW/TIG welding on nickel alloys, titanium, and stainless steels.
• CNC programming and operation certification for 5-axis machining (Ideally: Mastercam, Siemens NX, or OEM-specific).
• Heat treatment process qualification for localized stress relief / solution annealing (induction, resistance, or blanket heating).
• Minimum 4-6 years of hands‑on experience in aircraft engine case repai r (fan cases, compressor cases, turbine cases, intermediate cases, etc.) in an MRO or OEM overhaul environment.
• Proven proficiency in the following key processes:
  • Welding - Precision TIG/GTAW welding, weld repair of cracks, porosity, and damaged areas; weld buildup and blending on cases; post-weld heat treatment coordination.
  • 5-Axis Machining & Milling - Operation and basic programming of 5-axis CNC machines for complex case features (flanges, bosses, mounting pads, seal lands, bearing housings); contour milling, drilling, boring, and thread repair.
  • Localized Heat Treatment - Application of localized stress-relief heat treatment using induction coils, ceramic blankets, or resistance heating elements; temperature monitoring, charting, and thermocouple placement per OEM procedures.
  • Installation of Accessories - Precision installation and torquing of brackets, bosses, inserts, studs, tubes, harnesses, sensors, and other case-mounted accessories; lockwiring, sealing, and anti-fretting compound application.
  • Part Sentencing / Disposition - Final visual, dimensional, and documentation review of repaired cases; independent sentencing (serviceable, repairable, scrap) in accordance with engine overhaul manuals, service bulletins, engineering dispositions, and quality requirements.
  • NDT - Current NDT Level II certification (NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, EN 4179, or equivalent aerospace standard) in the following five primary NDT methods: PT,MT,ET,UT,RT.
  • Cleaning/Chemcial Processing - Familiarity with typical multi‑step engine cleaning sequences: aqueous/alkaline degreasing -> alkaline rust/scale removal -> acidic descaling -> neutralization/rinsing -> drying/passivation
• Adept in engine case materials (titanium alloys, Inconel, stainless steel, aluminum) and common defects (cracks, fretting, corrosion, distortion, wear).
• Experience working in a lean repair cell environment (one‑piece flow, multi‑skilled technician model).
• Proficient use of precision measuring equipment (CMM, Faro arm, height gauges, air gauges, thread gauges, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, repair schemes, and OEM manuals (GE, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls‑Royce, CFM, IAE, etc.).
• Nadcap or AS9100 experience
• Experience with automated welding (e.g., orbital or robotic TIG)
• Prior exposure to laser cladding or cold spray repair processes
