Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate with a keen interest in legal and compliance work to support the work of the Law Society’s Compliance department and other Secretariat’s departments.

The successful candidate must be a qualified lawyer who has experience in working in a law practice environment.

The specific duties include providing legal support for and legal review of the Compliance department’s work, including but not limited to the following:

  • To assist in the processing of applications for /renewals of Practising Certificates, as well as other applications handled by the department
  • To assist in the work of the Anti-Money Laundering Secretariat
  • To attend to legal and compliance enquiries from solicitors and law practices
  • To support the work of various practice committees
  • To assist in the development, management and streamlining of standard operating procedures, systems and processes of the department
  • To handle court applications under the Legal Profession Act 1966
  • To compile and analyse statistics relating to the legal profession
  • To conduct legal research into legal compliance matters
  • To assist in risk assessment to identify potential compliance issues and address them proactively
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university
  • Experience in working in a law practice environment of at least 1 year
  • Prior experience working in a Singapore law practice preferred
  • Able to conduct legal research
  • Experience with e-litigation preferred
  • Strong command of English and writing and communication skills
  • Able to multi-task and work independently within tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • A team player who demonstrates team spirit and collaboration with others
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills and able to manage competing priorities effectively
  • A positive attitude, adaptable to changes and open and wiling to learn
  • A proactive attitude to take initiative on matters and has a sense of responsibility for the work given

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
