Opportunity Overview
The Mechanical Components Commodity Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic sourcing, and supplier management of custom mechanical parts (machined parts, welded assemblies, castings, and similar components) while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support new product development / Introduction (NPD/NPI). This role combines expertise in commodity management with a proactive contribution to design, prototyping, and launch phases of innovative products, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery.


Commodity Management:

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for custom mechanical parts and similar parts (e.g., Machined parts, formed parts, castings, plastic injection molded, etc.) to optimize cost, quality, and supply chain reliability.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms to meet business objectives.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply risks for mechanical component commodities, providing insights to leadership and other stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements for all sourced metal components

New Product Development Support:

  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and R&D teams during NPD/NPI to identify suitable suppliers for prototypes and production.
  • Provide input on material selection, cost estimates, and supplier capabilities to align with project timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to facilitate rapid prototyping, testing, and validation of components for new products.
  • Transition sourcing strategies from development to full-scale production, ensuring scalability and continuity of supply

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and logistics teams to resolve supply chain issues and improve processes.
  • Partner with finance to track and report on cost savings, supplier performance, and NPD-related expenditures.
  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders to address technical or delivery challenges

Performance Metrics:

  • Achieve cost reduction targets while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of metal parts for both production and NPD milestones.
  • Maintain strong supplier performance ratings through regular evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in commodity management, procurement, or sourcing, with a focus on metal parts or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting new product development or product launches in a supply chain capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes (e.g., stamping, machining, casting) and material properties.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, Financial, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Skills:

  • Technical background in mechanical or industrial engineering.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in robotics, automotive, or industrial equipment industries
