As a Commodities Market Reporter – Polymer and Chemicals based in Singapore, you will immerse yourself in the fast-evolving world of chemical pricing benchmarks. Your day-to-day activities will involve gathering critical data from market sources to inform price assessments while crafting compelling commentary that brings clarity to complex market movements. You will be responsible for building lasting connections with industry professionals through regular engagement—whether via phone calls or at major conferences—and maintaining a robust contact database. By identifying new assessment opportunities and refining methodologies alongside your team members, you will help shape the future direction of chemical market intelligence. Success in this role requires curiosity about global commodity trends, attention to detail when analysing data or writing reports, and enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues who are equally passionate about delivering value to clients worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Gather information on daily physical trading activity from a diverse range of market contacts to produce accurate price assessments for chemical and polymer markets.
  • Write insightful daily commentaries and reports that explain the trends influencing prices and provide real-time reports for publication.
  • Engage regularly with market participants to build strong relationships and maintain an up-to-date database of industry contacts.
  • Identify opportunities to refine existing methodologies by researching new markets and developing contacts within those sectors.
  • Assist in launching new price assessments that support the growth of the chemicals team’s portfolio.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across teams to share knowledge and ensure consistency in reporting standards.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and execution of assessment opportunities that drive business expansion in chemical markets.
  • Represent the organisation professionally during face-to-face meetings with stakeholders or when speaking at public forums.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification demonstrating academic rigour relevant to analytical or research-based roles.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to interact effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds both internally within teams and externally with clients or sources.
  • A self-starter approach combined with effective problem-solving abilities that allow you to adapt quickly when faced with new challenges or tight deadlines.
  • Proven research skills showing your ability to investigate topics thoroughly using multiple sources of information.
  • Two to three years’ experience in market reporting, writing, analysis, relevant industry roles; however candidates with less experience but strong interest are also encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity or keen interest in chemicals, polymers or refining sectors as well as broader commodity markets is highly desirable for this position.
  • Understanding of economic principles along with strong numeracy skills allowing you to interpret statistics accurately and use basic mathematical functions within Excel spreadsheets.
