Job description

Commercial Director – SEAJA

Location - Remote Asia

The SEAJA business included three parts: Australia Sales Office, Singapore Thermal Sales Office, Taiwan Sales Office and Japan Office.

The Commercial Director is responsible for developing and implementing business plans to grow sales revenue and profitability. This includes designing the overall business' strategy for the cluster (including marketing and selling), and implementing it through an aligned organisation and cost structure, demonstrating a strong leadership in integrating the few sites as one effective & profitable reporting unit.

Sitting on the Asia Thermal Ceramics’ leadership team, the Commercial Director will report directly to the Managing Director of the Thermal Ceramics Asia and will contribute to the Asia Thermal Ceramics strategy and growth agenda.

The critical areas of role complexity in the role are twofold:

  • The SEAJA business contains wider areas of countries in Japan, Australia, Singapore.
  • The Japan business is a Joint Venture. Singapore and Taiwan is a cross GBU sites.

Responsibilities

  • To manage the SEAJA business (South East Asia, Australia, Japan, Taiwan) full profit and loss (P&L), with responsibility for growing sales, gross margin and managing overhead, to drive sustainable profitable growth.
  • To grow the business profitably through leading on strategy, identifying key growth opportunities and establishing cost effective, fit for purpose, functions that operate with an appropriate organisation and cost structure.
  • To provide strong leadership, proactively managing performance and aligning employee’s accountabilities and objectives to deliver the strategic and operational aims of the business.
  • Growing operating profit sustainably for the SEAJA business and managing the Profit & Loss account.
  • Growing the business profitably through identifying key growth opportunities, implementing the right strategies to capture them and resourcing the business appropriately, and ensuring cost effective, fit for purpose, functions operate in an appropriate structure that delivers results.
  • Leading and taking responsibility of overall successful execution of all Sales & Marketing to deliver profitable results for the cluster.
  • Leading the Customer Service process standardization across the countries.
  • Managing the business overhead to ensure that it is the right size for the business.
  • Establishing the practices, processes and behaviors that result in high trust, high collaboration and high performance.
  • Coaching key team members in the country management team to enhance their performance and support their development.
  • Sitting on the Thermal Ceramics Asia leadership team and contribute to the development of its strategy.

Qualifications

Degree with specialism in Engineering, Masters or MBA educated (or equivalent role based experience)

Has led a profit and loss account with more than GBP30M annual turnover

Can demonstrate experience of devising and implementing strategies that have resulted in business and profit growth

Has been a general manager in a similarly decentralised business where the GM holds full responsibility for the P&L

Has managed a business in a similar/related industry

Has led teams in innovative, engineering and sales-focussed environments
