Overview
Lead the technical, tactical, and developmental training of the U21 and U23 National 3x3 Teams (Men and Women) while actively contributing to the national talent pipeline. You will also assist the Head Coach in preparation, training, and competition of the Senior National Teams as needed, ensuring alignment in methodology and philosophy across all levels. You will be reporting to the Head Coach of the National 3x3 programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Coach for U21 & U23 Teams (Men & Women)
- Design and implement training programmes tailored to 3x3-specific physical and tactical demands.
- Plan and oversee camps, practices, scrimmages, and international youth competitions.
- Develop age-appropriate learning environments to cultivate decision-making, versatility, and game IQ.
- Monitor and guide individual athlete development plans in collaboration with S&C and medical staff.
- Talent Identification & Athlete Progression
- Scout, recruit, and select high-potential athletes from national trials, youth academies, schools, and clubs.
- Maintain a structured evaluation system to monitor progression towards senior team readiness.
- Provide detailed athlete reports and development feedback to the Head Coach and performance staff.
- Support Role in Senior National Team and National Youth Development Programme (NYDP)
- Assist the Head Coaches for National Team and NYDP in training sessions, match preparation, video review, and scouting for the Men’s and Women’s Senior Teams.
- Serve as bench assistant or support coach during major tournaments as assigned.
- Ensure methodological consistency between youth and senior training environments.
- Daily Training Environment & Culture
- Create a high-performance, athlete-centred training culture focused on resilience, discipline, and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with sports science staff for load management, performance testing, and injury prevention.
- Lead or co-lead team debriefs, film sessions, and on-court tactical walkthroughs.
- Program Alignment & Communication
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Head Coach, ensuring vertical alignment in systems, terminology, and strategic planning.
- Contribute to the annual competition calendar planning for U21/U23 teams and NYDP.
- Document and report on training outcomes, athlete progress, and team development.
- Administrative & Logistical Support
- Assist in team selection paperwork, tournament entries, and athlete briefings.
- Liaise with team managers and operations staff for travel, accommodations, and equipment needs
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years coaching experience with youth/high-performance athletes.
- Proven ability to design 3x3-specific training is preferred.
- Deep understanding of 3x3 rules, tactics, and FIBA competition formats.
- Experience in coaching youth or early senior athletes at high-performance level.
- Ability to mentor and motivate young athletes transitioning into elite sport.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Coaching certification in Basketball Professional Diploma or FIBA/NCAP Level 2 or above is required.
