Job description

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Cloud Security Architect to design and secure complex cloud architectures across hybrid environments including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and on-premise platforms (e.g., Nutanix, VMware). This role requires deep technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and a commitment to ensuring the security and resilience of government and defence cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement secure cloud architectures across public cloud and on premise platforms, tailored for high-security environments.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, governance models, and best practices across hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, penetration testing, and audits of cloud infrastructure, workloads, and applications.
  • Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and development teams to integrate security by design into cloud-based solutions and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor cloud environments for security threats and respond to incidents in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on guidance on cloud security architecture, secure coding, and threat mitigation.
  • Perform detailed cloud risk assessments, including third-party services, and implement mitigation strategies based on vulnerability analysis and threat modeling.
  • Stay up to date with evolving threat landscapes, cloud technologies, and compliance requirements to continually improve cloud security postures

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of security principles, common risks, threat vectors, and defence strategies.
  • Experience leading cloud security architecture and risk governance initiatives.
  • Proficiency in cloud-native technologies, including microservices, zero trust models, data security, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with container and orchestration security (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless application protection.
  • Hands-on programming or scripting knowledge in Python, Java, or Node.js, including the ability to perform code audits or develop secure tooling.
  • Deep understanding of security compliance and frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks, GDPR, HIPAA, or NIST.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement skills with a strong ethical foundation and risk awareness.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Professional certifications such as CISM, CEH, CRISC, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM platforms, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct security risk assessments and develop actionable security plans.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance, security audits, and governance in highly regulated environments.
  • Prior experience as a cloud security consultant, preferably in Whole-of Government (WOG) projects or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • A proactive problem-solver with the ability to mentor and lead teams toward long term strategic security outcomes.
