Position: Client Underwriter P&C India

About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a new role at Swiss Re. The Client Underwriter will focus on maintaining and developing Swiss Re's relationship with assigned clients, including marketing, administration, training, and technical and financial accounting, in support of achieving business, strategic, and financial objectives. This role requires an understanding of underwriting principles, economic trends, and related business opportunities in India. The role will also involve leveraging existing Swiss Re products and understanding regulatory and social constraints in growth markets to extend new business opportunities.

This role, working with the Director, Head of Client Underwriting, P&C India, aims to increase Swiss Re's profile in client servicing and position Swiss Re as the preferred reinsurance solution provider.

Key Responsibilities

1. End-to-end underwriting analysis of core business, including risk selection, simple costing, contracts review, and structuring; utilizing relevant technology for informed decision-making.
2. Understanding client/broker needs to develop and implement suitable reinsurance solutions.
3. Growing the core business by developing portfolio opportunities in collaboration with relevant specialists, adhering to the principle of "right service, right client".
4. Providing a holistic service proposition to allocated clients, considering all business opportunities, including facultative and treaty business.
5. Monitoring competitor offerings and industry, economic, and market trends.
6. Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the operations and issues related to allocated clients.
7. Collaborating with Product Underwriters on strategy, treaty evaluation, and decisive actions within your clients to meet standards and guidelines.
8. Supporting the Market Head in portfolio management, transformational underwriting initiatives, and excellence activities to achieve best-in-class treaty business.

About You

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with excellent communication and client management abilities.
• Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance underwriting, portfolio, and/or client management.
• Prior treaty analysis and underwriting experience, preferably in property business.
• Familiarity with NATCAT, fire, motor, and liability costing.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in risk evaluation and wording and costing issues.
• Understanding of the (re)insurance value chain and market trends.
• Experience managing treaty clients and brokers.
• Financial acumen and corporate finance knowledge.
• Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset, with organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Flexibility to travel within India and Asia as needed.
