Job Description

The Classroom Assistant supports the Classroom Teacher and wider school team in delivering quality teaching and learning to all students. Responsibilities include classroom support, maintaining routines, offering emotional and practical assistance to students, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and the leadership team. As part of a small, close-knit team, the Assistant is expected to be flexible and proactive, ready to support various operational needs in a dynamic school setting.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Welcome children in their classroom at the start of the day.
2. Supervise and accompany children during recess, meals, activities, nap time, bus arrivals and departures, and assist with dressing, undressing, and changing as needed, fostering autonomy. Prepare snacks and assist during mealtime.
3. Ensure personal hygiene and safety rules are respected throughout the school environment, including classrooms, stairs, corridors, and playgrounds. Clean, tidy, and store equipment throughout the day and at day’s end.
4. Maintain classroom organization and procedures, including supervising activities, managing stationery, and storing student work.
5. Implement preventative measures to minimize accidents and reinforce positive behavior.
6. Refer parents to teachers for specific inquiries regarding education, welfare, social, or emotional concerns.
7. Participate in meetings and training sessions as per the school calendar.
8. Support the setup and transition of new routines and procedures as the school evolves.
9. Contribute to creating a warm, multilingual, and inclusive classroom environment aligned with Lumina’s mission and values.
