The Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) has been uplifting lives and promoting mental wellness for all since 1968. We are now looking for a Chief Executive Officer to lead SAMH forward in its next phase of development. The successful applicant is one who is passionate about our cause, has a clear vision of how SAMH can be developed further, and possesses the drive and commitment to carry this out.
The Chief Executive Officer will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the charity, ensuring delivery of its mission and values, and undertaking responsibility for the charity’s growth, programme effectiveness, governance, stakeholder engagement and financial sustainability. This position requires a dynamic leader with a passion for social impact, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to inspire and manage teams effectively.
Key responsibilities:
Leadership
- Provide visionary leadership, defining and driving the strategic direction of SAMH.
- Foster and build an inclusive and high performing team. Lead, coach and develop a diverse leadership team. Champion staff well-being, growth and development.
- Build strategic external partnerships. As an ambassador for the charity, actively cultivate and engage key stakeholders, including donors/funders, volunteers, community partners and government agencies for sustained support.
- Operational Management & Compliance
- Oversee all aspects of charity’s operations and ensure adherence to high standards as benchmarked against the sector’s best practices.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the Programmes in making a difference and implement changes to stay relevant in response to feedback and data.
- Ensure that Board members are kept well-informed of key developments and provided with sufficient financial and management information to enable them to exercise their statutory responsibilities.
- Carry out all roles and responsibilities in compliance with the legal, regulatory and governance requirements as stipulated by the Charities Commission.
Financial
- Produce regular financial reports and forecasts and manage the charity’s annual budget.
- Ensure full and accurate financial reporting including the preparation of an annual report and financial statements to the Charities Commission.
Communications
- Develop a media and communications strategy to raise the charity’s presence and profile, in step with the growing importance of mental health in Singapore.
- Oversee brand consistency across all levels of the charity, ensuring it reflects our values.
- Manage the development and maintenance of effective channels of marketing and communication with all stakeholders and ensure effective internal communications.
Requirements:
Candidates may emerge from Nonprofit, Foundation, Government or Industry backgrounds and should possess the following:
- Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of prior experience in senior leadership at a charity, non-profit, foundation or public sector.
- Strong business accumen and a history of providing visionary leadership at the executive level, with proven experience in executing organisational growth and the courage to take bold decisions when necessary.
- Proven experience working with/leading a nonprofit Board and engaging effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Familiar with diverse business functions such as Strategic Planning, Program Development, Fundraising, Finance, Human Resources, Public Relations, Marketing, etc.
- Experience in financial management of the organization and ensuring that there is proper planning and execution to maintain financial stability while procuring sufficient resources for the organization to grow.
- Experience in fundraising and donor management.
- Experience in leading a diverse, engaged and high performing team.
- A persuasive and passionate communicator with exceptional proficiency in written, verbal and public communication and strong interpersonal and multi-disciplinary project skills.
