About the role
We are seeking a highly organised and meticulous Chemist to perform chemical and physical analyses of petrochemical products. The successful candidate will operate a range of laboratory instruments, prepare accurate calibration standards, develop and validate analytical methods, and support the maintenance of the laboratory's quality management system. The role requires a self-motivated professional with strong attention to detail, sound analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Perform chemical and physical analyses of petrochemical samples using established laboratory methods and procedures.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Prepare calibration standards and reagents accurately and in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Develop, optimise, validate, and document analytical methods.
- Investigate and diagnose analytical, instrumentation, and equipment-related problems.
- Record, review, and report analytical results accurately and promptly.
- Maintain appropriate laboratory records, documentation, and test data.
- Manage the availability, storage, and maintenance of laboratory reagents and consumables.
- Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of the laboratory's quality management system.
- Follow all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
About you
- Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
- Proven work experience of 3 to 5 years in a similar laboratory or analytical chemistry role.
- Experience working with petrochemical, chemical, or industrial laboratory samples is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to laboratory work.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.
- Ability to prepare calibration standards to a high degree of accuracy.
- Practical experience with gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), Karl Fischer moisture analysis, manual and automatic titration, and density measurement.
- Experience with total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, ion chromatography, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), distillation, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX), viscometry, or melt flow rate (MFR) testing is desirable.
