Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The primary goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining the skills needed for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, responsible for executing therapeutic plans, teaching patients to use adaptive equipment, guiding exercises, and engaging patients in activities vital for recovery.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Contributing to planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to individual needs, understanding therapeutic goals, and applying creative approaches to meet those goals.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Monitoring and documenting patient progress, observing changes, reporting to therapists, and adjusting interventions for continuous improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educating patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support long-term recovery and independence.
Qualifications
  • Degree in an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
