Position Summary

The Housing Case Manager is a high-demand position that provides holistic, strength-based, harm reduction case-management services specializing in housing. Responsibilities include removing barriers to housing, assisting with appointments, gathering documents, developing housing plans, creating budgets, linking guests to resources, applying for housing, locating housing, advocating for housing, and coordinating guest move-ins from shelter to housing. The role involves visiting housing options, building rapport with landlords, participating in weekly housing match meetings, and embodying the ministry and mission of The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions
Case Management:
  • Provide holistic, strength-based, harm-reduction-focused case management efficiently.
  • Maintain an active caseload.
  • Work with guests to remove barriers to housing.
  • Develop individualized case plans and conduct needs assessments.
  • Meet with guests bi-weekly and update case notes regularly.
  • Assist with obtaining necessary housing documents.
  • Facilitate weekly life skills groups on topics like budgeting and being a good tenant.
  • Use conflict management and crisis intervention techniques as needed.
Housing Navigation:
  • Develop personalized housing plans.
  • Visit housing options and build landlord rapport.
  • Maintain a list of current housing vacancies.
  • Assist guests in locating and securing housing through outreach and advocacy.
  • Coordinate guest move-out plans and facilitate training for new staff and volunteers.
  • Document all relevant information thoroughly.
  • Apply skills in research, problem-solving, communication, project management, teamwork, and organizational effectiveness.
Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist; operate a computer, fax, and telephone; lift up to 40 lbs.

Pay Rate

$24.00-$28.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Understanding of The Salvation Army's Christian mission.
  • BSW or equivalent degree preferred.
  • At least 1-year experience in case management with recovery, mental health, or homeless populations.
  • Experience with HMIS preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Valid driver's license and clean MVR.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; flexible availability.
  • Experience with tenant/landlord relationships.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Professionalism, time management, and computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
