Job description

JOB SUMMARY

To perform recording of haemodynamics and electrophysiological data during invasive cardiac investigations such as right and left heart catheterization, coronary angiogram, coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology studies and pacemaker implantation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SPECIFIC

1. Conducts pre-operative checking of patient to ensure the correct patient and correct procedure.
2. Ensures correct entry of patient's risk factors and other clinical data into the CIIMS (Cardiac Imaging and Information Management System) or equivalent cardiac reports.
3. Performs ECG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for haemodynamic monitoring.
4. Identifies major life threatening ECG abnormalities and initiates emergency resuscitation as required.
5. Monitors and reports change in a patient's condition to the cardiologist.
6. Performs in the role of haemodynamics recording and monitoring, generates accurate cath reports from diagnostic or interventional procedures.
7. Performs technical procedures as required to an adequate level of competency as defined by the department (refer to orientation and clinical skills checklist).
8. Maintains proper documentation of medications and event logs into cardiovascular information system (CCW).
9. Prepares and completes consumables charge form for all the cases done in Invasive Cardiac Lab.
10. Prepares Cardiac Data bank form for coordinator to collect from Invasive Cardiac Lab.
11. Maintains technical equipment required for invasive cardiac studies in optimal condition.
12. Prepares and sets up equipment used for electrophysiology study (EPS).
13. Operates RF generator for ablation under the direct supervision of EP cardiologists.
14. Performs I-STAT machine daily stimulator check, liquid QC for new cartridges and yearly CAP test.
15. Performs IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound), FFR (Fractional Flow Reserve), OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) recording and measurement independently.
16. Maintains and tops up emergency PCI-Cart.
17. Initiates and maintains immediate resuscitation in cardiac emergencies.
18. Performs on-call duty as rostered.

GENERAL

1. Orientates and guides new staff to ensure safe and effective standard of care for patients.
2. Supervises, trains and coaches new/junior staff to meet departmental needs.
3. Supervises polytechnic students during their practical attachments.
4. Participates in MOH licensing and ensures safer system audit at department level.
5. Participates in quality improvement projects at hospital-wide/departmental level.
6. Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education.
7. Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills with the patients, next-of-kin, colleagues and supervisors.
8. Exercises care in the use of equipment and supplies.
9. Maintains general tidiness and cleanliness of the control room.
10. Demonstrates familiarity with mass disaster plan and participates in the disaster exercise according to assigned roles and responsibilities.
11. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Reporting officer, doctors and Head of Department.

3. Practices standard precautions when delivering patient care.
