A leading company in the chilled and frozen foods distribution sector is seeking a Business Manager for grocery to lead their specialist team. The role involves staff management, customer engagement, and strategic oversight of inventory and sales growth. Direct Reports: Key Accounts team (Grocery), Merchandiser Supervisor (direct) and Merchandisers (indirect)
Bidfood’s Business Manager for grocery leads our specialist team to deliver and grow our position as the preferred chilled and frozen foods distributor to the Singapore grocery market segment.
Primary Responsibilities
Staff management and development
Recruit new team members who have the required skills, an appetite to learn and enthusiasm for the contribution the Retail Channels team makes to the business.
Identify the team behaviours, competencies and outcomes that contribute to success and support each team member to achieve these, reflected as the highest standards of service and support to our customers.
Develop clear progression plans that continually enhance our team capability.
Develop a positive and productive performance culture where employees receive constructive feedback, are recognised for results achieved and supported where improvement is required.
Customer engagement
Lead the grocery channel Key Accounts team to manage highly professional business relationships with our customers.
Where appropriate participate in business reviews with key customers alongside Key Account Managers that highlight category performance, challenges for joint attention and opportunities for future growth.
Support Key Account Managers to identify and execute opportunities for growth in ranging and categories.
Be hands-on alongside Key Account Managers in developing new customer opportunities building on our existing supply chain to expand our market coverage.
Represent Bidfood in customer and industry events as appropriate.
Brand Principal engagement
Lead highly professional business relationships with our brand principals for whom Bidfood is the appointed route to market for retail channels in Singapore.
Negotiate commercial terms for Bidfood supply including all marketing co-op, inventory allowances, minimum margin and additional supply chain costs.
Prepare and present business reviews with brand principals that highlight category performance, challenges for joint attention and opportunities for future growth.
Support brand principals to develop effective and appropriate market strategies in Singapore to maximise brand performance.
Where appropriate provide the full brand representation in market accompanied by the appropriate financial terms from the brand principal to reflect this.
Develop promotional activity brands for brands with full representation to grow profitable sales.
Identify, develop and deliver new brand opportunities for Bidfood to represent in retail trade prioritising opportunities from Bidfood’s current brand portfolio or those for which there is also a wholesale opportunity.
Sales & expense targets
In conjunction with the CEO identify the annual financial year sales, gross margins and expense budgets for the grocery channels.
Work with the grocery team to manage cost to agreed levels and exceed sales & margin results.
Report on team achievement and market activity as required.
Business operations
Identify the appropriate operational execution of merchandising services required to fulfill the business operations of the grocery channel and deliver on agreed service levels.
Report on team achievement and market activity as required.
Maintain oversight & controls of ranging & returns ensuring all financial KPI’s are within agreed
Monitor trading terms & promotional spending
Identify opportunities to use technology as a Bidfood pillar to enhance productivity and quality of execution in the sales, merchandising and operations support.
Inventory Management
Have oversight of all forecast and inventory related processes for the grocery team that ensures all inventory management KPIs are met.
Ensure all inventory claims on brand principals are processed accurately and on time, and queries addressed promptly to ensure payment.
Troubleshot potential inventory issues where demand has not followed forecast; ensure that slow moving stock concerns are addressed promptly with customers and stock is cleared before expiry.
Key Performance Indicators
Grocery channels sales growth targets are met.
Grocery channels profitability targets are met.
Forecasted inventory has minimal stock write-offs.
Pricing and inventory claims are all processed correctly
Customer accounts are kept within terms and all unpaid invoice queries are addressed promptly and resolved through the payment.
Brand principal satisfaction with Bidfood performance
New brand representation opportunities are developed, implemented and generate positive financial contributions.
New customer accounts are development and implemented
All engagement with brand principals, customers, staff and other business partners is conducted with the highest level of professional integrity.
