Singapore Badminton Association – SINGLES COACH
Singapore Badminton Association is inviting applications for the position of Singapore Badminton Singles Coach. We are aiming to enhance our current singles programme through the recruitment of an internationally recognised coach with the aim of continuing the development and growth of our singles programme. This position is a full‑time post dedicated toward driving Singapore’s Singles strategy toward further international success in the short and long term, building on the recent successes on the world stage. The successful candidate will join the existing Singles Coaching team along with a strong support from the SBA High Performance Team and High‑Performance Sports Institute.
The Singles Coach is responsible for the planning of annual and weekly training programmes for the Singapore National Singles players, whilst managing the daily training environment and working with the High Performance Team to define the competition programme for the players. Additionally, the successful candidate will also be involved in the integration of a performance Singles strategy for Singapore.
Required attributes
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience coaching within a National Team structure with a primary focus on Singles
- A proven record of success in developing world‑class players and performances evidenced at top‑level tournaments
- A clear understanding of annual planning and periodisation principles in the sport of Badminton and how they can be applied across the developing players
- Holds the BWF Level 1 or 2 qualification or equivalent is preferred
- Strong communication skills; fluent in speaking English as the primary language
- Ability to create a motivating training environment
- Knowledge of sport science to enhance the performance of athletes
Key responsibilities and main tasks and activities
- Assist the planning and delivery of the annual and weekly training and competition plan for Singapore National Singles players
- Work in conjunction with the Singles Head Coach, National Training Squad (NTS) Coaches and Junior Performance Program (JPP) Coaches in technical leadership of a Singapore Singles strategy to produce world‑class Singles players for Singapore
- Work with the High Performance Team to ensure that training and competition programmes for Singapore’s Singles players are well managed and reflective of progressive athlete development needs
- Co‑ordinate the training environment and overall management of the Singles performance programme with the High Performance Team
- Emphasise the overall team culture and discipline which aligns with the targets for the programme
- Develop a strong relationship with dedicated High Performance Sports Institute staff to ensure that Singapore Singles players receive appropriate sports science support that reflects their customised development and performance objectives
- Coaching of Singapore National players at international tournaments as required
- Report to the Head Singles Coach
Other Duties
- To undertake other duties from time to time as reasonably required by the Head of Pathway and Performance
