Job summary

foodpanda Singapore is seeking a Junior Backend Software Engineer to join the Transaction domain and regional Product team in Singapore. You'll work with an international team to drive innovation across the vendor journey, from cart and checkout to post-order experiences.

You will design, implement, and test scalable microservices, follow coding standards, and contribute to architecture decisions while embracing CI/CD and cloud practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 1 year of backend development experience.
• Experience with software architecture, design patterns, and automated tests.
• Familiarity with microservices and distributed databases.
• Strong English communication and collaboration in agile teams.

About the opportunity

We're looking for a dynamic Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our Transaction domain and regional Product team in Singapore. You'll work with a highly skilled international team to drive innovation across the vendor journey, with responsibilities spanning everything from cart and checkout to the post-order experience.

Responsibilities:

• Designing and implementing the features which will be used across the global platform.
• Collaborate within cross-functional, international teams to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, driving holistic solutions.
• Contributing to designing and evolving the system architecture to meet current needs and support future growth and technologies.
• Enforcing coding standards and conducting thorough code reviews to maintain high-quality codebase. Implement automated testing frameworks to catch bugs early and ensure software reliability.
• Good understanding and independent application of cloud environment, CI/CD, testing and validation.
• Independently applies design patterns and best practices in reliability management (resiliency, autoscaling, monitoring, alerting).
• Identifying and resolving complex technical issues in software and infrastructure, continuously optimising for performance and scalability.

What you need to be successful

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 1 year of working experience in backend development.
• Practical experience with software architecture, design patterns, design principles, algorithms, and writing automated tests (unit, integration, and functional).
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and patterns, aiding in the development of scalable and maintainable systems, is a strong plus.
• Solid understanding of relational and distributed databases (normal forms, ACID, isolation levels, index anatomy & concepts of distributed databases).
• Experience with the software development lifecycle and collaboration within cross-functional, international agile teams.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
