Description and Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, support, and maintain AWS-based Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and associated cloud infrastructure.
- Perform Level 2 support for Linux system incidents, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and timely resolution.
- Implement, configure, and monitor Linux servers and AWS resources such as EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks using scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Work closely with DevOps, application teams, and security to deploy patches, updates, and system hardening in compliance with security policies.
- Perform system performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
- Manage backups, disaster recovery, and incident response for Linux systems on AWS.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide support for critical production issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support migration and upgrades of Linux environments within AWS.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders for escalations and complex issues.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure proactive infrastructure management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration, with at least 3 years working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Strong experience working in AWS cloud environment with hands-on knowledge of core AWS services.
- Proven expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex Linux system issues.
- Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
- Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers, VPN, Firewalls).
- Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., CIS benchmarks, PCI-DSS).
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills with ability to work effectively in a team environment and with stakeholders.
- Experience supporting production environments with high availability requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours including on-call support rotations. (E.g. 9am-6pm OR 1pm-10pm)
Preferred Skills:
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or equivalent.
- Experience with logging and observability tools like ELK stack, Splunk, or Grafana.
