Job summary

Nomura is seeking a Stress Testing Analyst (Associate) in Singapore to support the Risk Management division. You will analyze BAU stress results, contribute to ICAAP submissions, and help enhance stress testing methodologies and IT solutions.

The role provides exposure across risk disciplines and requires 3+ years in risk management with strong Python and VBA scripting abilities.

Qualifications

Department Overview

The Risk Management Department provides senior management with an independent assessment of principal risks across business units. It is organized by risk classes: Market Risk, Credit Risk, Operational Risk, and Risk Methodology.

Within Risk Management, the Stress Testing Group (STG) supports the firm’s stress testing objectives:

• Conduct firm-wide, risk-class-specific, and trading-book-level stress tests (market, credit, operational, liquidity risks).
• Integrate stress testing results into capital planning, regulatory submissions (e.g., ICAAP), and decision-making.
• Meet regulatory scenario requests and infrastructure/control requirements.

Role Description

The Stress Testing Analyst will be responsible for analyzing BAU stress results across a range of stress metrics and presenting results to stakeholders and committees, supporting global/regional capital planning and regulatory submissions (e.g., ICAAP, Nomura Holdings Firm-Wide Stress Testing).

Additional responsibilities will be to work with Risk Methodology in the improvement and development of stress testing methodologies, involvement in building tactical IT solutions / prototypes and working closely with IT to deliver enhancements to the strategic Stress Testing systems.

This role provides the opportunity to gain exposure across a wide range of risk management disciplines.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Investigate and analyze BAU stress results across a range of stress metrics, dissecting headline numbers into their principal components and identifying top and emerging risks.
• Present stress results to stakeholders and committees, and support global and regional capital planning and regulatory submissions (e.g. ICAAP, Nomura Holdings Firm-Wide Stress Testing).
• Perform scenario analysis to assess risk events that could materially impact the firm.
• Design and implement improvements to streamline the stress testing process and strengthen the operating model, delivering effective risk management information to senior management.
• Develop tactical tools and prototypes for scenario calibration and results analysis and use these to help define STG procedures and strategic IT requirements.
• Partner with Risk Methodology to enhance stress testing methodologies, and work with IT to deliver enhancements to the strategic Stress Testing systems.
• Work cross-functionally with Risk, IT and Finance to implement the strategic operating model.
• Build relationships within STG and across Risk Management, Risk IT and other departments to ensure timely, consistent delivery.
• Respond to ad-hoc requests on stress testing process, data and results from various stakeholders, and dissect overall numbers into their principal components when required.

• Minimum Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or quantitative field
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in an investment bank in a risk management function
• Minimum 3 years’ experience scripting in Python and VBA to automate processes, analyze data, or build tactical solutions
• Strong analytical skills to dissect complex data and communicate insights.
• Ability to work autonomously, escalation issues, and manage deadlines under pressure.
• Active interest in financial markets and their behavior under stress.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions in fast-moving markets
