Overview

Job Description
  • The incumbent will provide support to the Department of Physics' Workshop. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Responsible for fabricating and manufacturing parts for members of the Physics Department, the Faculty and occasionally for external users or entities.
  • The applicant should have hands-on experience in understanding technical drawings and the ability to convert these drawings (CAD/CAM) into parts using various materials.
  • The applicant should demonstrate the ability to operate modern manufacturing equipment including but not limited to CNC machining, laser and wire cutting, and traditional tools found in mechanical workshops.
  • The applicant will be tasked with 3D printing job requests.
  • The applicant will help to plan for new equipment and workflow to improve the capability of the workshop.
  • In addition to workshop duties, the applicant will assist in departmental administrative duties as assigned by the Workshop Lead, Professors/Managers in the Department or those specified by the Head of Department or their designate.
Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info
  • Possess a BSc (Physics), BEng (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) or Diploma in Precision Engineering.
  • Relevant work experience of at least five to six years will be strongly considered.
  • Experience in the following will be advantageous:
  • Basic coding of CNC machines
  • CAD design software
  • Using CAM package to interact with CNC machines
  • Milling, turning, drilling of various metals (aluminium, stainless steel, copper, brass, etc) and polymer materials (PTFE, PEEK, PVC, PC, Acrylic, etc)
  • 3D printer operations (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc)
  • Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent's performance and the University/School's prevailing remuneration policies.
  • The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
