Job Description

The incumbent will provide support to the Department of Physics' Workshop. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -

1. Responsible for fabricating and manufacturing parts for members of the Physics Department, the Faculty and occasionally for external users or entities.

2. The applicant should have hands-on experience in understanding technical drawings and the ability to convert these drawings (CAD/CAM) into parts using various materials.

3. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to operate modern manufacturing equipment including but not limited to CNC machining, laser and wire cutting, and traditional tools found in mechanical workshops.

4. The applicant will be tasked with 3D printing job requests.

5. The applicant will help to plan for new equipment and workflow to improve the capability of the workshop.

6. In addition to workshop duties, the applicant will assist in departmental administrative duties as assigned by the Workshop Lead, Professors/Managers in the Department or those specified by the Head of Department or their designate.

Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info

• Possess a BSc (Physics), BEng (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) or Diploma in Precision Engineering.

• Relevant work experience of at least five to six years will be strongly considered.

• Experience in the following will be advantageous:

- Basic coding of CNC machines

- CAD design software

- Using CAM package to interact with CNC machines

- Milling, turning, drilling of various metals (aluminium, stainless steel, copper, brass, etc) and polymer materials (PTFE, PEEK, PVC, PC, Acrylic, etc)

- 3D printer operations (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc)

- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent's performance and the University/School's prevailing remuneration policies.

- The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
