The Laboratory of Surgical System & Service Innovation (3SI) is a multi-disciplinary laboratory that provides a platform for cutting-edge surgical health services research that informs healthcare systems, policies, and programs to provide high-value, patient centered care for patients and their families undergoing surgery.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, meticulous, and responsible Associate Psychologist to work closely with a team of experienced researchers and the clinical team in health system, services innovation, and novel surgical technologies research. You will be part of a holistic clinical and health services research team whose mission is to improve clinical outcomes for seriously ill patients undergoing major surgery.

The main role of the Associate Psychologist is to be the patient’s main point of contact throughout their serious illness journey. Responsibilities will include the conduct of serious illness conversations, advanced care planning, patient education/support/counselling, screening for palliative and functional needs, providing psycho-social support among others. In addition, interested applicants may consider pursuing an Associate Psychologist-researcher track within our laboratory, and be involved in clinical and health services research projects.

Main Responsibilities

1. Programme Implementation & Support

  • Patient navigation during the serious illness journey
  • Regular screening for palliative or rehabilitation needs
  • Conduct serious illness conversations & advanced care planning
  • Patient education & support/counselling in the context of serious illness

2. Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Data collection – including quality of life questionnaires, patient interviews
  • Data synthesis – analysis of collected data

3. Research

  • Posters/Conferences/Manuscripts support
  • Grant support
Main Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology
  • Background in Nursing, Medical Social Work, Counselling, or Ethics will be an added advantage
  • Proficient computer knowledge (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Added advantage with experience in voluntary/social work
  • Passionate about clinical and health service research to bring about positive impact to patients with advanced cancers
  • Learns fast and good team player
  • Able to work independently and interactively in a team setting, with excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills
