Associate Director, Strategy & Operations, Asia Pacific

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP, Asia Pacific, the Associate Director will be responsible for designing and implementing strategic initiatives to expand Flagship’s presence in the APAC region. Working closely under the guidance of the Flagship leadership in Asia, as well as the Flagship team based in the US, the Associate Director will drive value creation opportunities for Flagship and its portfolio companies in Asia. This would include designing and operationalizing institutional partnerships, as well as supporting Flagship’s Business Units (e.g., Pioneering Business Units, Pioneering Intelligence, Pioneering Medicines) and Portfolio companies seeking to expand in the region.

Responsibilities

1. Drive end-to-end execution of strategic initiatives and workstreams with the goal of building meaningful partnerships and value creation opportunities in APAC for Flagship and Flagship's portfolio companies. This would include framing strategic areas of overlapping interest, developing new models of partnership, leveraging current models and preparing relevant materials to engage prospective contacts.
2. Establish and oversee operational processes (e.g., project/use case selection and tracking for R&D partnerships) to ensure efficient execution as well as alignment with Flagship’s overall global operating model (e.g., alignment with other Global hubs).
3. Maintain a central understanding of the Flagship platforms and their pipelines across the portfolio of 40+ companies, as well as key stakeholders in APAC (e.g., government, industry, investors, academia) who would be prospective partners to Flagship and its portfolio companies.
4. Codify key learnings and frameworks of novel partnership models (e.g., governance, processes) to enable effective scale-up globally.
5. Develop appropriate briefings and background information on leading stakeholders to enable effective strategy development with Flagship leadership. Where appropriate, drive select discussions and presentations with key stakeholders.
6. Support Flagship Asia Pacific leadership (e.g., VP, Chairman) with relevant business insights and analyses to enable effective decision-making.
7. Drive end-to-end planning of visits from Flagship senior leaders and key events with relevant Flagship colleagues.
8. Utilise and, where relevant, enhance, the necessary tools (e.g., Salesforce CRM) for tracking and maintaining data on the network of prospects and related cultivation activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

1. Science background and/or strong scientific curiosity across biomedical, scientific and engineering disciplines.
2. 5-8 years of experience in Strategy and Operations roles or equivalent in Life Sciences companies, or at least 3-5 years of experience in management consulting preferred.
3. Proven track record of working in a highly matrixed environment, as well as being comfortable with extremely high levels of ambiguity.
4. Ability to drive complex projects with multiple stakeholders to completion.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Strong situational awareness - able to read the room and adapt problem-solving approach depending on what the situation requires.
7. Sophisticated team collaborator and communicator.
