Job summary

USER EXPERIENCE RESEARCHERS PTE. LTD. is seeking aBackend Developer to design, build, and maintain server-side logic, databases, and APIs powering the platform.

You will develop scalable, secure backend services and integration components while aligning with frontend, data teams, and stakeholders. This role requires hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, relational/NoSQL databases, and cloud services such as AWS.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in backend software development and building scalable, reliable applications.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language: Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and integrating systems.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including writing queries and ensuring data integrity.
• Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architectures, and system integration.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, backend architecture, and secure coding practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain server-side logic, databases, and APIs powering the platform.
• Develop scalable, secure backend services and integration components.
• Implement microservices and distributed systems with attention to maintainability.
• Integrate with upstream and downstream systems and data sources.
• Optimize relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query tuning.

• Collaborate with frontend engineers, data teams, and stakeholders to deliver solutions.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices in backend systems.
• Support testing, deployment, and production operations activities.
• Write clean, well-documented, testable code and participate in code reviews.
• Maintain system design artefacts and documentation.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies like sprint planning and stand-ups.

Job description

Key Role & Responsibility

• Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power the platform, ensuring reliability, performance, and security:
• Design and develop scalable, maintainable, and secure backend services, APIs, and integration components.
• Design and implement scalable microservices and distributed systems.
• Integrate with upstream and downstream systems, devices, and data sources.
• Manage and optimise relational and non-relational databases, including schema design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
• Develop data processing, transformation, and analytics services.
• Implement application monitoring, logging, and observability features to support system reliability and operational troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application and integration issues to ensure service reliability and performance.
• Work closely with frontend engineers, data teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, and other security best practices in backend systems.
• Support testing, deployment, and production operations activities.
• Write clean, well-documented, and testable code, and participate in peer code reviews.
• Maintain technical documentation and system design artefacts.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to deliver solutions and support knowledge sharing across the project team.

Experience & Skills Needed

• At least 2 years of experience in backend software development and building scalable, reliable applications.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language: Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and integrating systems.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including writing queries, basic query optimisation, and maintaining data integrity.
• Basic understanding of message queues, event-driven architectures, and system integration.
• Familiarity with software design patterns, backend application architecture, and secure coding practices.
• Hands-on experience developing or deploying applications on AWS.
• Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience using GitLab, version control, and CI/CD pipelines, with an understanding of Agile software development practices.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a development team.
