An established industry player in medical education is seeking two dynamic Associate/Assistant Professors to advance research in Behavioral Epidemiology and Health Informatics. This role offers the unique opportunity to leverage the SG100K population study, focusing on chronic disease and healthy aging. The appointees will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, contribute to teaching, and drive innovative research that enhances health outcomes for Asian populations. If you're passionate about public health and eager to make a significant impact, this is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking institution dedicated to excellence in research and education.
The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (LKCMedicine, NTU Singapore) is seeking to appoint two full-time Associate / Assistant Professors. The appointees will be expected to undertake high quality research in the areas of Behavioural Epidemiology, and Health Informatics and Chronic Disease Epidemiology, leveraging our unique, and internationally outstanding SG100K population study.
SG100K is a landmark multi-ethnic Asian longitudinal populations study comprising 100,000 Singaporeans from diverse backgrounds. With comprehensive behavioural, phenotypic, multi-omics data, and electronic health record linkage, the study represents a state-of-the art platform for epidemiological and Precision Medicine research. Our focus is to improve understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of diverse disease outcomes in Asia, and to generate insights that have the potential to improve health outcomes for Asian populations globally. SG100K works in close partnership with the National Precision Medicine Programme, providing multiple opportunities for innovative and transformational research. SG100K has a strong program of environmental epidemiological research, including and partnership with the MRC Epidemiology, University of Cambridge (HD4 programme), which is focusing on developing evidence and interventions for the upstream determinants of health. The appointees will have a unique opportunity to work synergistically with the SG100K cohort study, and partner cross-cutting translational research in environmental, clinical, molecular and genomic epidemiology. This fantastic foundation resource will enable the appointees to develop an independent program of work that builds on the successes of SG100K, and to advance Precision Health and Precision Medicine for Asian populations.
The appointee for the first post is expected to build a programme of research in the behavioural epidemiology of Asian populations. This will focus on the relationships and mechanisms linking nutrition and / or physical activity to chronic disease and healthy ageing. The appointee will be able to take advantage of the extensive information on diet and physical activity (including objective and planned ongoing measurement by geospatial tracking and accelerometery) collected in the SG100K participants.
The appointee for the second post is expected to establish a programme of research on health informatics, chronic disease epidemiology and disease modelling. The appointee will leverage the linkage electronic records established for SG100K participants and develop approaches that enable these complex data to be analysed effectively to address a range of health-related questions.
There are extensive established interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations with epidemiologists, clinicians, data scientists, engineers and architects, on which the appointees can build. There is also a mature team of postdoctoral fellows engaged in SG100K research, who will be able to provide initial support for the appointees’ research programmes. For both positions, there should be a strong emphasis on clinical translation, including through national platforms
The appointees will be hosted within the Population and Global Health Research Programme at LKCMedicine. The Programme Director of Population and Global Health, Professor John Chambers, leads the SG100K cohort study and also serves as the Chief Scientific Officer for the National Precision Medicine programme.
The appointees will be expected to secure independent research funding, to drive innovative programs of work, that lead to clinical translation, and to build productive interdisciplinary collaborations within LKCMedicine and NTU Singapore, with our healthcare partners, with national and with international researchers. The appointees are required to contribute to teaching and educational responsibilities for the training of medical students and postgraduate research students.
