Job summary

National University Hospital in Singapore is seeking a diligent theatre technician to maintain a safe and clean environment for the surgical patient. You will support the surgical team by ensuring OT equipment is ready, assisting with patient transfers, and keeping the OT safe and organized throughout daily operations.

This role requires initiative, good communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Preferably with NITEC / secondary school education.
• Possess initiative and keenness to learn.
• Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Check suction/diathermy machines for cleanliness and good working order.
• Check operating lights for clarity and good functioning.
• Clean, check and prepare operating table and accessories.
• Perform daily inventory checks on positioning aids and accessories.
• Routine cleaning of OT equipment (e.g., tourniquet, light source).
• Assist to ensure efficient turnover of daily elective and emergency operations.
• Transport patient to OT and back; assist in transfers to/from operating table.
• Assist in positioning the patient and in the application of tourniquet.
• Adjust and focus operating lights; assist nurses in patient care.
• Stay in OR to assist surgical team as needed; assist with turnover tasks.
• Perform OT terminal cleaning and maintain housekeeping of OT suites.

Job description

Overview

The job-holder is responsible to provide a safe and clean environment for the surgical patient.

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

• Ensure operational readiness of OT equipment
  • Check the suction and diathermy machines for cleanliness and good working order
  • Check operating lights for clarity and good functioning
  • Clean, check and prepare operating table and accessories
  • Perform daily inventory check on positioning aids and accessories
  • Routine cleaning of OT equipment e.g. tourniquet, light source etc
• Assist to ensure efficient turnover of daily elective and emergency operations in the operating room
  • Transport patient from the ward to OT and vice versa
  • Assist in the safe transfer of patient from trolley to operating table and vice versa
  • Assist in positioning the patient
  • Assist surgeon in application of tourniquet
  • Adjust and focus the operating lights and assist nurses in patient care
  • To stay in the OR to assist the surgical team when needed, eg. Change the suction liner, additional adhoc equipment needed etc
  • Perform cleaning of the OR in between cases within 15mins. (Turnaround time target)
• Maintain a clean and safe operating room environment
  • Ensure that the disposable suction liner is capped tightly before discarding into the biohazard bag.
  • Perform OT terminal cleaning at the end of the list or after infected cases as stated in the protocol.
  • Maintain proper daily housekeeping of OT suite which include operating room, prep-room, scrub room, Anaesthesia room and sluice room.
  • Clear soiled linen and surgical wastes to the dirty utility room after the next case had started or when time permits.
• Other job duties such as maintaining proper housekeeping of pantry after 6pm.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
