Assistant Teachers work in a direct support role, providing assistance to students and Class Teachers. They give classrooms the hands-on support they need to successfully educate students, taking care of certain tasks so that Class Teachers are able to properly instruct the students. They have a key role in adjusting lessons to help each student learn the content by giving them the one-on-one guidance they need after a group lesson with the Class Teacher.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee students in classroom settings as well as non-classroom settings like outdoor play, learning journey and snack time.
2. Assist class teachers in routines such as changing and snack time.
3. Work in small groups or one-on-one with students in the classroom to reinforce instructional material.
4. Assist class teacher in organizing the learning environment, preparing materials and maintaining resources.
5. Encourage student participation, promote positive behavior, and reinforce classroom rules and expectations.
6. Perform recordkeeping duties associated with the classroom including attendance.
7. Facilitate students in proper classroom procedures and behavior.
8. Collaborate with teachers on a regular basis regarding student progress.
9. Adapt instructional materials as necessary to meet special education guidelines.
10. Work with class teacher in managing challenging behaviors.
11. Supervise the safety of students in and out of the classroom, following guidelines and implementing school standards under the direction of the class teacher.
