Nanyang Technological University seeks an Assistant Professor in Learning-Oriented Sustainable Assessment specializing in educational technology and the Science(s) of Learning. The Learning Sciences & Assessment Department (LSA) is an interdisciplinary academic group focused on advancing the understanding of learning, educational technology, and assessment through multiple perspectives, with the ultimate goal of enhancing learning outcomes for all learners. Our mission is to empower educational practitioners as designers of effective learning experiences and environments, and as active contributors to reflective communities of practice.
The department bridges theory and practice through diverse research methodologies, including experimental studies, reflection-in-action, action research, design experiments, and ethnography. LSA currently offers courses for initial teacher education and a wide range of graduate programmes, including Master of Education (Educational Assessment), Master of Arts (Instructional Design and Technologies), Master of Education (Learning Sciences and Technologies), Master of Arts in Professional Education (Training and Development). Master of Teaching, Master of Science (Science of Learning), Doctor of Education (Technologies and Technology-Mediated Learning Environments) andDoctor of Philosophy (Education).
LSA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Learning-Oriented Sustainable Assessment (LOSA), with specialisation in Assessment for Learning, Educational Technology, and emerging developments in the Science(s) of Learning, such as Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR).
The successful candidate will contribute to existing and new programmes, engage in collaborative research and teaching, and provide service at the department, institute, university, national, and international levels. Interdisciplinary scholarship and cross-cutting research interests are highly encouraged.
Requirements
Candidates should possess:
A PhD or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., learning-oriented sustainable assessment, educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, or learner agency)
Demonstrated potential to secure and manage competitive research grants
An emerging record of high-quality research publications and presentations in relevant fields
Evidence of excellence in teaching and understanding of school practice
A developing international network of scholarly collaborators
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
A collegial disposition with the ability to contribute collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
Develop and sustain a productive research programme in assessment, incorporating educational technology and AI-enhanced practices
Design and teach undergraduate, graduate, and initial teacher education courses, particularly in learner-centred assessment, technology-enhanced assessment, and learning sciences
Collaborate with faculty colleagues to develop innovative curriculum and support school-based practices
Supervise initial teacher education candidates and graduate students at both master’s and doctoral levels
Secure external research funding and publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
Establish professional networks with local and international researchers and practitioners
Participate actively in departmental, institutional, and NIE-wide service activities.
