Job Summary
Reporting to the Piping Manager, the Assistant Manager will support overall planning, execution, and coordination of piping engineering works. You will be responsible for reviewing deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance, and providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is part of succession planning. The selected candidate will be groomed to take over as Department Manager due to the current Manager’s planned retirement. A salary adjustment and role upgrade will follow upon promotion.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review piping layout, 3D models, material take-offs (MTO), and other engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project specs, international codes, and internal quality standards
- Plan and coordinate piping engineering activities and manpower allocation for multiple projects
- Lead and support in the development of department procedures, technical guides, and training materials
- Conduct technical training for engineers and designers within the department
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure proper interface and alignment
- Provide field engineering support and technical advice during piping installation, testing, and commissioning
- Participate in model reviews, constructability checks, and technical evaluations
- Ensure timely resolution of technical issues and support project milestones
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Piping Manager
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- At least 15 years of experience in piping design and engineering, preferably in onshore EPC plant construction projects
- Strong knowledge of Caesar II for stress analysis and familiarity with interpreting stress/vibration reports
- Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D model review tools such as Navisworks or SmartPlant Review
- Sound understanding of piping materials, specifications, standards, and construction techniques
- Ability to perform complex piping calculations (e.g. trigonometry, quadratic equations, etc.)
- Strong analytical, coordination, and decision-making skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to lead and work with cross-functional teams
