Job Summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for operation excellence of the various teams under his/her care. He/she is responsible for Profit and loss of each customer. The role is to inculcate in the team members the culture of providing excellent customer service to customers. Apart from that, the Manager is to conduct manpower planning and deployment and ensure that the Operating cost are kept within control. He/she also involves in farming to develop more businesses from the existing clients.

Role & Responsibilities

Operations Excellence

  • Oversee the smooth running of day to day operation
  • To ensure teams follow SOP and investigate non compliance.
  • To strictly adhere to PSA BDP Health, Safety & Environmental and Security Policies and Standards.
  • To ensure that team leaders perform audit checks on all outgoing docs.
  • To communicate and coach team members on best practices and potential pitfalls to avoid from time to time.
  • To conduct team meetings and inter- team meetings across dept to resolve bottlenecks and enhance customer service to clients
  • To ensure that the teams had credible & workable backup plan. All teams members had to be crossed trained and hands on experience in handling the work as backup.
  • To manage the current team to achieve Operation Excellence

Customer Service Excellence

  • To create a culture of customer service excellence by reinforcing to the team regularly to respond to customers promptly and proactively.
  • To render advice and assistance to customer to resolve shipping issues encountered.
  • To hold regular Monthly Operation Meetings with Customers to obtain feedback on PSA BDP service performance, and resolve operation issues.
  • To investigate customer’s complaints and recommend corrective and preventive actions to resolve the issues.
  • To work with current teams and teams of other depts to deliver great PSA BDP Customer experience to existing and prospective customers

People Management

  • Conduct manpower resource planning to ensure that workload are evenly distributed and all the staff work as a team to achieve greater productivity and output.
  • Conduct Staff Performance Appraisal & Coaching periodically to ensure that the staff goals are in line with company's objectives
  • To train and groom second line of potential leaders for succession plan
  • Train and coach existing team leaders to be independent and able to manage and handle difficult issues.
  • Conduct orientation and induction programme for new staff and ensure that new staff are successfully integrated into her current teams and the organisation.
  • Conduct on the job training for new staff and leadership training for team leaders.
  • Create a work environment that motivates the team to achieve higher work performances

Cost Management

  • To scrutinize and study the profit & loss statements of the dept accounts to determine the root cause of not meeting or exceeding the budget.
  • To propose to dept manager on cost containment measures.
  • To assist dept managers in monitoring and following -up with customers on prompt settlement of outstanding.
  • To streamline current process to reduce wastage, cost, and improve the overall productivity of the dept.

Business Development

  • To involve in joint sales call with Sale Team to potential customers.
  • To workout quotation for tender bids requested by overseas PSA BDP offices
  • Provide prompt pricing quotations to sales or customers when requested.

Performance Reporting

  • To collate and analyse operation statistics and submit monthly reports to immediate superior.
  • To submit Monthly KPIs Reports to Customer.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting

  • To Chart the business direction of the dept.
  • To ensure that the depts meets the revenue, cost and profit targets as budgeted.

Experience and Qualification

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management an advantage
  • Minimum 6 years managerial experience in forwarding, shipping and documentation, logistics industry.
  • Good knowledge of import and export procedures across air, land and sea freight
  • Good knowledge of Forwarding, Shipping and Documentation
  • Knowledge and understanding of Letter of Credits
  • Experience in management reporting writing skills
  • Skillful in MS Office and good understanding of IT systems an advantage
  • Experience in using SAP and other in-house logistics systems
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements and applicable industry regulations.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong Customer Service Focus and problem solving skills
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Experience in managing an operation team of more than 10 members.
