Job summary

SIA Engineering Company in Singapore seeks an in-house senior lawyer to draft, review and negotiate complex commercial and operational contracts, including NDAs, service, procurement and IP/licensing agreements. You will identify risks and provide strategic recommendations, advise on litigation, and coordinate with external counsel.

Requirements include 7–9 years PQE, LLB (Hons) from a Singaporean or reputable English-speaking university, and admission to the Singapore Bar or a common law

Qualifications

• PQE 7–9 years post-qualification experience.
• Experience in corporate and commercial law; contract drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of global trade, data privacy, employment, competition and anti-bribery is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate commercial and operational contracts (customers/vendors, NDAs, service, procurement, IP/licensing).
• Identify legal/contractual risks and provide strategic recommendations.
• Advise on litigation matters and coordinate with external law firms.
• Coordinate with foreign/in-house lawyers and manage insurance-related matters.
• Support corporate governance and corporate secretarial tasks.
• Stay updated on relevant legal developments and provide proactive business advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate commercial and operational contracts, including but not limited to complex agreements with customers and vendors, cooperation agreements, procurement agreements, non-disclosure agreements, service agreements, HR/employment contracts, insurance-related covenants and documentation, and IP-related /licensing agreements.
• Identify legal and contractual risks and provide strategic, clear and practical recommendations and solutions to the business.
• Advise on and manage litigation matters, including advising on litigation strategy, drafting relevant statements of claim, affidavits and other relevant documentation, instruct and collaborate with external law firms.
• Manage and coordinate with external/foreign lawyers and internal legal team members when necessary. Support, coordinate and manage insurance related matters.
• Support corporate governance and corporate secretarial matters.
• Keep abreast of relevant legal developments and provide proactive advice to the business.

Key Requirements

• PQE: At least 7-9 years’ Post-Qualification Experience (PQE).
• Qualifications: Bachelor of Law (LLB) (Hons) with a Singapore or reputable international English-speaking university. Be called to the Singapore bar or other common law jurisdiction. Experience in a comparable in-house legal environment would be an added advantage.
• Experience: Solid experience in corporate and commercial law. Proven expertise and experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation. Experience in advising on global trade (export controls/sanctions), data privacy, employment, competition and anti-bribery and corruption matters is an added advantage.
• Reporting to: Head of Department.
• Coverage: Worldwide.
• Primary Attributes: Strong work ethic, attention to detail and strong critical-thinking and analytical skills.
• Able to exercise professional judgment, strong accountability and decision making skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including Management-level stakeholders.
