Job description

What the role is:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Assistant Manager to support the Applied Sciences Group (ASG) of HSA. The successful candidate will work closely with forensic science, forensic medicine, and analytical divisions on data analytics projects, providing insights and recommendations to senior management and ASG project owners. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in applied sciences to effectively support digital transformation in the area of data analysis initiatives.

What you will be working on:

  1. Conduct data analysis and provide insights and recommendations to senior management in the context of the applied sciences industry.
  2. Develop data visualizations to support data-driven journalism for reporting to both internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Communicate data insights to non-technical stakeholders in the forensic and health sciences industries in a clear and concise manner.
  4. Collaborate with laboratory professionals and IT teams to identify opportunities for data-driven decision making in laboratory operations and systems.
  5. Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all data sources.
  6. To improve efficiency, quality, compliance, process optimization, research and development, inventory management and provide insights into laboratory processes and test results through the use of laboratory information management systems (LIMS):
  • Analyze data and optimize workflows to improve efficiency, identify trends and patterns in test results, which can be used to improve quality control processes and ensure that products meet regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by identifying potential issues and areas for improvement.
  • Identify new areas for process optimization by recognizing patterns and trends in test results.
  • Involved in planning for corporate events and other secretariat duties within the Group Director’s Office for Applied Sciences Group.

  • What we are looking for:

    • Relevant qualifications in analytical chemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
    • Knowledge in analytical chemistry or in the context of the applied sciences industry preferred.
    • More than 3 years of experience in supporting laboratories in data analysis, with a focus on supporting data journalism.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or R.
    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau or Power BI.
    • Knowledge of data journalism best practices and techniques.
    • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) in the hospital, biopharma, or chemical testing industry will be an advantage.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity in the context of data journalism.
