Job description

Element has an opportunity for an Associate Engineer (Mechanical) to join our rapidly expanding team. In this role, you will perform a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision and must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

This role is based in Sungei Kadut Loop, Singapore. We will move to Tuas in September 2025.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct mechanical, physical, and durability testing on materials/products according to international standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, BS, EN) and assist in developing and improving testing methodologies.

  • Operate and maintain testing equipment such as Universal Testing Machines (UTM), hardness testers, impact testers, and fatigue testers and perform sample preparation, measurements, and test execution while ensuring accuracy and consistency.

  • Accurately document test results, observations, and deviations in a structured manner and assist in generating test reports in compliance with laboratory quality management systems

  • Ensure proper traceability and documentation of all test data for audits and client verification and follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to ISO 17025 and other relevant accreditation requirements

  • Ensure test accuracy and repeatability by following proper calibration and verification processes and assist in internal and external audits by maintaining proper records and compliance documentation

  • Perform daily maintenance checks on laboratory equipment and report any malfunctions and assist in the calibration and verification of testing machines to maintain accuracy while working with senior engineers and external vendors for equipment troubleshooting and servicing

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and risk assessments when handling testing machines and specimens and properly handle hazardous materials and waste disposal in compliance with safety regulations

  • Ensure a clean and organized workspace to minimize risks and improve efficiency and support senior engineers in troubleshooting technical issues during testing

  • Assist in research and development (R&D) projects for new test methods or equipment upgrades and participate in inter-laboratory proficiency testing and validation studies to ensure accuracy

  • Attend training sessions and competency assessments to enhance technical knowledge and provide suggestions for improving testing procedures and laboratory workflows and continue to be updated with new testing standards and industry best practices

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of relevant working experience

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety

  • Preferred significant field experience leading to comparable engineering knowledge, competencies and skill

  • In-depth understanding of testing concepts

  • Ability to analyze and compile testing data from the tests performed

  • Basic computer skills

  • Willingness to work in a laboratory setting with strict adherence to safety protocols

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks under tight deadlines

  • Commitment to maintaining quality and compliance in testing operations
