Job description

Job Purpose

The Assistant Engineer (AE) will perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and fault attendance tasks for equipment within the IFM scope, in accordance with quality and safety standards. The AE will ensure that work complies with Work Instructions (WI), Work Records (WR), and maintenance manuals. Additionally, the AE will investigate incidents/accidents, conduct safety checks to ensure compliance with the SMRT Work Safety Manual, and uphold quality assurance in accordance with the Code of Practice or SMRT Quality Procedures (QP).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Engineer's duties include, but are not limited to, the following. Note that this list is not exhaustive, and related duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Lead and manage a team of Technical Officers (TO) to perform PM, CM, and fault attendance at stations, tunnels, and depots for IFM equipment (such as electrical switchboards, fire alarm systems, ACMV systems, escalators & lifts, infrastructure & facilities).
  • Perform fault attendance, troubleshooting, and rectification.
  • Plan maintenance work schedules and execute scheduled PM/CM tasks.
  • Ensure timely closure of all work orders and follow up on faults.
  • Supervise PM & CM works carried out by contractors, ensuring safety, quality, and standards are met.
  • Respond to faults reported by the Operations Command Centre (OCC).
  • Manage and ensure proper maintenance of IFM equipment to keep it in good operational condition.
  • Conduct team briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Supervise and ensure TOs perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Provide technical advice, information, and instructions to TOs and other staff.
  • Maintain current and updated drawings, diagrams, manuals, and records of PM and CM activities.
