Assistant Director (Tech & Digital Masterplanning)

What the role is:

The Singapore Food Agency’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

The Digital Office (DGO) in the Science and Technology Division (S&T) designs, builds, and refreshes our digital capabilities and systems to enable effective, efficient, and resilient organisation processes. Through our work, we build up SFA’s capability to support the development of a new food safety ecosystem that is nimble, comprehensive and encompasses every food-related transaction across the value chain, where all players along the food supply chain take ownership to ensure food is safe for consumers.

The candidate will be working in the Tech and Digital Masterplanning department in DGO and be responsible for driving the development of SFA’s tech and digital masterplans and roadmaps. This includes working with SFA Divisions to uncover new tech and digitalisation needs and opportunities, scoping projects/initiatives that leverage tech and digital tools to enhance the national food safety ecosystem, and developing training plans to build the needed digital capabilities in DGO and SFA to further transform SFA into a digitally enabled organisation.

Areas of work

1. Develop SFA’s digitalisation roadmaps/masterplans
2. Track progress of initiatives/projects under these roadmaps/masterplans
3. Work with SFA Divisions to uncover new tech and digitalisation needs and opportunities
4. Monitor tech developments/new technologies for potential deployment in SFA; build relationships with possible tech partners and experts
5. Scope projects/initiatives that leverage these technologies and/or readily available commercial or tech stack products/tools to better support SFA Divisions’ needs
6. Create Proof of Concepts to deliver small-scale solutions and resolve issues that may arise to ensure usability of the solutions
7. Develop training plans to build digital capabilities in DGO and SFA
8. Manage resources allocated to Digital Office; prioritise and triage projects/initiatives

Requirements

1. Degree in STEM disciplines will be advantageous
2. Work experience in tech/digital strategy, planning, or transformation roles
3. Ability to engage and establish rapport with stakeholders, senior management, and contributors at all levels of the organisation
4. Demonstrate anticipative, agile, resilient, and collaborative behaviour – officer must be able to plan ahead, update plans due to fast changing developments, stay mission focused, and surmount obstacles
5. Strong analytical, organisational, and planning skills
6. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills

About Singapore Food Agency

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health. The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
