What the role is:
Climate change is a global existential threat, and Singapore is doing its part to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable future. The power sector contributes about 40% of Singapore's greenhouse gas emissions. We need to significantly reduce the power sector's emissions, while ensuring that the power system remains secure, reliable, and sustainable. To overcome land constraints, Singapore is exploring importing electricity from regional power grids to access cleaner energy resources outside its borders.
What you will be working on:
The Energy Connections Office aims to facilitate around 6GW of low-carbon electricity imports into Singapore by 2035, representing about one-third of our energy demand. We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Branch Head to lead the Re-Imagining Future Power (RFP)-A team. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Nurturing and guiding the RFP-A team to achieve strategic outcomes for Singapore and EMA.
- Leading negotiations with interested companies on their proposals and evaluating them to meet our requirements for energy security, competitiveness, and sustainability.
- Engaging overseas government bodies to facilitate imports.
- Ensuring timely implementation of electricity import projects.
Requirements:
- Keen interest in energy transition issues and a passion for public service.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in government relations, industry engagement, or the energy sector, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, challenging the status quo, and proposing innovative solutions.
- Excellent verbal communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with willingness to delve into relevant subject areas.
- Willing to travel overseas frequently for work.
