Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for assisting Dental Technicians in the initial stages of laboratory procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific

  • Casts impressions using various types of gypsum stones or plaster of paris, according to the dentist's prescription, using the vibrator and vacuum mixer as appropriate. (CORE)
  • The impressions can be of alginate, zinc-oxide eugenol and rubber base materials.
  • Removes the stone casts from the impression.
  • Bases, trims and finishes the models if required.
  • Scans models using lab scanner to obtain virtual model
  • Records patient details on models and special trays
  • Records patient information and assist Dental Technician in administrative duties for external case dispatch.
  • Fabricates special trays for impression taking. These can be in shellac or acrylic.
  • Fabricates bite rims for the construction of bite blocks.

General

  • Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and plaster room.
  • In-charge of the maintenance of the plaster room especially the stock of materials used.
  • Maintains proper record of models and special trays completed.
  • Adhere to rules on safety, security and fire prevention.
  • Performs any other ad-hoc duties and tasks as and when assigned by Senior Dental Technician.

Education, Training and Experience

Completed Secondary 2 education with ability to read and write basic English. Some related experience preferred. Must be familiar with safety features of model trimmers, vacuum mixers and other related equipment.
