Nanyang Technological University is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in Technology-Enhanced Learning, focusing on VR and AR. The Learning Sciences & Assessment Department (LSA) is an interdisciplinary academic group focused on advancing the understanding of learning, educational technology, and assessment through multiple perspectives, with the ultimate goal of enhancing learning outcomes for all learners. Our mission is to empower educational practitioners as designers of effective learning experiences and environments, and as active contributors to reflective communities of practice.
LSA integrates theory and practice through diverse research methodologies, including experimental studies, reflection-in-action, action research, design experiments, and ethnography. The Group offers a wide range of programmes across initial teacher education and graduate education, including Master of Arts (Instructional Design and Technologies), - Master of Education (Learning Sciences and Technologies), Master of Arts in Professional Education (Training and Development), Master of Teaching, Master of Science (Science of Learning), Doctor of Education (Technologies and Technology-Mediated Learning, Environments and Doctor of Philosophy (Education).
LSA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL). We seek applicants with strong research expertise in technology-enhanced learning. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in:
- Virtual Reality (VR)
- Augmented Reality (AR)
- Immersive Learning Environments (ILE)
- Use of multimodal technologies such as brain imaging or physiological sensors in immersive learning contexts
Requirements
For Assistant Professor Rank
Candidates should possess:
A PhD or equivalent qualification in technology-enhanced learning or learning sciences
Research expertise in VR, AR, ILE or related multimodal immersive technologies is preferred
Demonstrated potential to secure and manage competitive research grants
An emerging record of scholarly research publications and conference presentations
Evidence of teaching excellence and familiarity with school practice
Developing international research collaborations
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken English)
Collegiality and willingness to collaborate across disciplinary areas
Additional Requirements for Associate Professor Rank:
Established record of excellence as Assistant/Associate Professor at reputable universities
Outstanding research record in TEL, particularly VR, AR, and immersive learning environments
Proven track record of securing competitive research grants
Extensive publication record in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals
International research network with established collaborations
Experience working in or with educational institutions, including schools, is preferred.
Responsibilities
Establish and sustain a productive research programme, securing competitive research funding
Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals or other reputable scholarly outlets
Design, teach, and coordinate undergraduate, graduate, and initial teacher education courses
Collaborate with faculty colleagues to design innovative curricula and support school-based professional practices
Supervise graduate students and teacher education candidates, including teaching practicum supervision
Build professional networks with local and international researchers and practitioners
Contribute actively to service at the departmental, institutional, national, and international levels
Share expertise across NIE through collaborative platforms and interdisciplinary projects.
