The Psychology and Child & Human Development (PCHD) Department at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University prepares the next generations of psychologists, counsellors, educators, and education specialists to thrive and succeed in a rapidly evolving world shaped by globalization and technological advancements. Our faculty and staff strive to facilitate student success. Our strength lies within the diversity of expertise and specializations in PCHD including psychology, counselling, teacher education, early childhood education, special educational needs, learning sciences, motivation, cognitive science, and mental health.

We invite suitably qualified applicants for a position as Assistant Professor up to Associate Professor (with tenure) in Educational/Developmental Psychology. This position provides the opportunity to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the areas of psychology and teacher education, to engage practitioners in the domain of psychology and teacher education, and to pursue research in areas of psychology and teacher education.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A doctorate degree in psychology or a relevant field, with specialization in educational/school psychology or developmental psychology.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching and innovative uses of technology.
  • Evidence for potential in advancing the field through rigorous research.
  • Willingness to understand and support the work of colleagues beyond one’s niche area of expertise.
  • A strong commitment to and aptitude for teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Applicants for associate professor position should present evidence of demonstrated substantial leadership and achievements in research, supervision, teaching, and administration.

Applicants will be in a position of added advantage:

  • If he or she has taught in a general education school system in any country.
  • If he or she is a Registered/Licensed Psychologist (preferably as Educational/School/Developmental Psychologist) with an accredited authority or be eligible for registration with the Singapore Register of Psychologists.
  • Post-doctoral research experience for Assistant Professor.
  • Leadership and administrative experience for Associate Professor.



Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • To teach existing and new courses at undergraduate and graduate degree levels, as well as pre-service and in-service teacher education.
  • To engage in research that informs policy and practice.
  • To develop a research agenda and programme, and to publish in reputable journals as is customary in his/her field.
  • To establish professional connections with local and international researchers and practitioners involved in his/her specific area of expertise.
  • To share expertise with NIE colleagues through various platforms.
  • To undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and to contribute to other service-related activities at the departmental and Institutional levels.
  • To engage in programme leadership and curriculum design and development.
  • A cover letter addressing how you meet the requirements of this position.
  • A Curriculum Vitae that includes work experience, qualifications, teaching experience, research accomplishments, full publications list (in APA format), and service records.
  • A statement of research interests.
  • A statement of teaching philosophy and experience and evidence of teaching excellence (if available).
  • 1 to 3 of your best publications.
