Job summary

The Singapore-ETH Centre in Singapore invites applications for a full-time researcher to design, build, and test soft robotic manipulation systems for baggage handling in aircraft cargo holds. You will work across mechanical design, soft actuation, fabrication, electronics, and control to create complete subsystems and prototypes.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience building or programming physical systems: prototyping, CAD, fabrication, electronics, robot integration, robot programming, or machine learning.
• Working knowledge of actuation, mechanism design, control, or embedded systems.
• Strong written and spoken English; bias toward action and rapid iteration.
• Interdisciplinary, experimental research mindset; collaboration across groups.
• Background or interest in soft robotics, grasping or deformable objects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take soft robotic end-effectors and manipulation subsystems from concept to prototype.
• Integrate sensing and control of the gripper into ML-based dexterous manipulation algorithms.
• Prototype, test, measure, and iterate design cycles in real and simulated environments.
• Validate performance through design trade studies against project KPIs and safety targets.
• Collaborate with SUTD-led consortium and industry partners to integrate subsystems across teams.
