Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Singapore, Asia Pacific Division, seeks an Executive Director, Head of Business Strategy Group to lead regional strategy, planning and oversight for APAC branches and investees. The role partners with Head Office and drives macro insights, governance and cross-border initiatives.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of banking experience with leadership in strategy and planning.
• Degree in business, economics, finance; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
• Translate strategy into execution with strong analytical, financial and project-management skills.
• Broad network of senior relationships across the Bank and Group companies.
• Lead multi-functional teams across locations; coach talent and build succession depth.
• Strong emotional intelligence and ability to bridge diverse teams.
• Set clear direction, delegate, manage performance and navigate change.
• Role-model leadership with integrity and resilience under pressure.
• Knowledge of local Banking Act and regional regulations across AP jurisdictions.
• Ability to assess regulatory, compliance and reputational implications; collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk and Audit.
• Ability to converse in Japanese; fluent English is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead formulation and refresh of APD strategy, mid-term plan and annual business plan.
• Convert strategic ideas into prioritised initiatives with owners, milestones, KPIs and governance cadence.
• Provide consultation and governance support to APAC branches and subsidiaries.
• Act as primary contact with Head Office for regional strategy and investee matters.
• Oversee regional macroeconomic and sector research to inform country risk and strategy.
• Drive inter-branch collaboration on promotions and cross-regional initiatives for clients.
• Oversee governance and regulatory compliance across investee companies.
• Build, coach and develop a high-performing team; foster collaboration and learning.
• Prepare briefings for APD senior management and Board; represent SMBC in forums.
