Overview
This internship offers hands‑on, routine operational experience supporting daily aquaculture and wet laboratory activities.
It is suitable for Polytechnic students pursuing studies in:
- Environmental Science
- Marine Science
- Aquaculture
- Related life science disciplines
This role is ideal for students with a strong interest in aquaculture research and development (R&D), as well as practical, day-to-day operational work in a wet lab environment.
Key Responsibilities (Routine Work)
- Support fish husbandry and daily care activities
- Perform daily water changes and tank cleaning
- Assist with feeding management in accordance with established protocols
- Support water quality monitoring and tank system management
- Conduct routine handling of live fish
- Assist scientists with fish supply for experimental and research activities, including preparation, allocation, and coordination according to study requirements
- Perform daily data entry, registration, and record keeping
- Assist with stock inventory management, including:
- Fish feed
- Equipment
- Chemicals and consumables
- Maintain general housekeeping of wet lab and aquaculture facilities
Learning Exposure
- Water sampling
- Fish weight sampling
- Tank management and system maintenance
- Routine fish health screening activities, including:
- Fish dissection
- DNA extraction
- RNA extraction
- PCR and qPCR
- Bacterial plating
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Able-bodied and physically fit
- Able to carry at least 10 kg
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors
- Able to work in humid and wet environmentsNot afraid of heights
- Understands that this is a labour-intensive, routine-based role
