A Consultant Surgical (Anatomic) Pathologist position is now available at one of the long standing tertiary hospitals in Singapore.
The facility is a 795-bed general and acute care hospital located in the Northern part of Singapore. It is part of one of the major healthcare groups in Singapore who provide tertiary healthcare to a resident population of 1.5 million living in the central and northern regions of Singapore.
The position is based in the Anatomic Pathology Section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM). The anatomical pathology laboratory is accredited with the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
The Surgical Pathologist will work closely with surgical pathology colleagues from two other hospitals to provide anatomical pathology services to the main hospital and the adjoining Community Hospital. The activities include diagnostic reporting of general histopathology and cytopathology cases, intraoperative consults, validation and quality control of laboratory processes, leadership of the surgical pathology service, and other consultative services to staff of various clinical disciplines in the hospital. This includes regular interaction with surgical and oncology services from the hospital and other institutions, with attendance at multidisciplinary tumour boards and tissue audit committee meetings.
Apart from clinical duties, administrative and educational duties include serving on hospital and external committees (up to National-level) related to the specialty, and teaching of staff, medical undergraduates, resident physicians, surgical pathology trainee doctors (through the residency programme), and laboratory technical staff. Research opportunities are available with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from the hospital and other groups/Institutions.
Candidates should be qualified and experienced with a medical degree suitable for registration with the Singapore Medical Council, as well as a specialist postgraduate qualification such as FRCPA, FRCPath with CCT from the UK, or Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology from the U.S., for accreditation as a Specialist Pathologist with the Singapore Specialists Accreditation Board. Appointment will be based on relevant number of years of experience as a Surgical Pathologist.
