Descripción de la vacante

Duke-NUS invites applications for a senior research position at the COP-CBDS joint appointment to advance research and platform development at the interface of AI and pathogen genomics, strengthening outbreak preparedness across Asia.

You will lead applied research, design AI-enabled genomic analysis methods, build collaborations with public health partners, contribute to grants, publish high-impact work, and mentor researchers, with emphasis on responsible, translational outcomes.

Formación

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in AI/ML/genomics/biomedical data science or related field.
  • Minimum experience: Senior Research Fellow — typically 5+ years postdoctoral; Principal Research Scientist — typically 6+ years with leadership; Assistant Professor (Practice Track) — evidence of teaching/mentorship.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI/data science methods applied to genomics, omics, infectious diseases, surveillance or related domains.
  • Strong skills in machine learning, statistical learning, scalable pipelines, software engineering, cloud/HPC, federated/privacy-preserving analytics, knowledge graphs, LLMs or multi-modal data integration.
  • Track record of high-quality research outputs, technical delivery, grant/proposal development, team science and effective communication with diverse stakeholders.

Responsabilidades

  • Lead and develop applied research at the interface of AI, pathogen genomics and outbreak preparedness in collaboration with COP and CBDS faculty and partners.
  • Design, develop and evaluate AI-enabled methods for pathogen genomic analysis, including variant detection, lineage classification, AMR prediction, outbreak clustering, genomic representation learning, and multi-modal data integration.
  • Build collaborations across Duke-NUS, SingHealth, national public health agencies, regional partners and international organisations.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, research strategy, donor engagement and externally funded programmes in AI and pathogen genomics.
  • Publish high-quality scientific papers, technical reports and policy briefs to advance the field and translate into public health practice.
  • Support robust, reproducible, ethically governed analytical workflows with attention to data quality, privacy and sovereignty.
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to research staff, data scientists, students and collaborators, including supervision and mentorship.
  • Contribute to education and training in AI, computational genomics and outbreak analytics for Duke-NUS learners and regional partners.
