Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AI Engineer to join our SMRT team and drive innovation in the transport sector. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AI engineering practices, a strong background in transportation systems, and hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud, Azure AI services, Large Language Models (LLMs), and advanced analytics techniques. This role is crucial for managing the end-to-end deployment of AI solutions and ensuring their effectiveness through rigorous use case validation within the SMRT operational context.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy end-to-end AI solutions specifically tailored for SMRT's transport domain, leveraging Microsoft Azure AI services.
- Lead the deployment and integration of AI models into existing SMRT operational systems, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
- Work closely with SMRT's operational teams to validate AI use cases, ensuring solutions address critical business needs and deliver tangible value.
- Develop predictive models for smart maintenance of SMRT assets, route optimization for our transport networks, and demand forecasting for passenger flow.
- Collaborate with SMRT's data engineers and transport domain experts to curate, prepare, and integrate large-scale datasets relevant to our operations.
- Implement and fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs) using Azure OpenAI and other relevant Microsoft services for operational automation, intelligent assistance for staff, and enhanced customer interactions.
- Leverage Azure AI and analytics services (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory) for scalable deployment, monitoring, and MLOps of AI solutions.
- Build interactive dashboards and analytical tools using Power BI/Open-source UI to provide actionable insights to SMRT's operations and management teams.
- Ensure responsible AI practices are embedded in all solutions, maintaining comprehensive documentation for model explainability, auditability, and compliance with SMRT's standards
Qualifications & Work Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in AI engineering roles, with a significant portion preferably within the public transport or logistics domain, demonstrating a clear understanding of operational challenges.
Skills
- Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure AI services, including Azure Machine Learning, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, and Azure Data Factory.
- Strong knowledge of Large Language Models (e.g., GPT, BERT) and NLP pipelines, including practical experience with custom fine-tuning and deployment within an enterprise environment.
- Expertise in developing and managing end-to-end AI/ML pipelines, encompassing data ingestion, model training, rigorous evaluation, deployment, and continuous monitoring (MLOps).
- Solid understanding of transport operations, predictive maintenance strategies, asset optimization, and operational efficiency within a large-scale public transport setting.
- Proficiency in Python for AI/ML development, SQL for data manipulation, and experience with Power BI or other tools for data visualization.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business insights for SMRT's diverse teams.
