Job summary

MINDEF's SAF AI Centre (SAIC) invites an AI Engineer to partner with operational users across SAF to acquire data and develop AI/ML models for mission-critical needs. You will design, deploy, and integrate AI/ML solutions with SAF systems, upholding best practices in training, evaluation, and deployment for robust, secure outcomes.

You will stay abreast of AI advances and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions align with SAF processes and contribute to national security

Qualifications

• Education in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience preferred.
• Proficiency in data science frameworks with hands-on Python experience.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and model training/evaluation/deployment.
• Interest in AI for defence and SAF operational needs.

What the role is:

You deep dive into technical solutions, working with operational users to acquire datasets and models for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) as an AI Engineer at the SAF AI Centre (SAIC). You need to stay up to date with the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology to proactively identify, initiate and promulgate worthwhile engineering projects that could be maximised in similar use cases across the SAF.The SAF Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) is a unit within the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) that addresses SAF's operational data science challenges and enhances defence capabilities through innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

What you will be working on:

• Engage with SAF personnel across all four services to understand the unique operational needs and challenges within military contexts
• Design, develop, and deploy AI and ML models to address complex, mission-critical challenges faced by the SAF
• Integrate AI solutions into SAF’s existing software systems to ensure they align seamlessly with operational processes
• Uphold best practices in model training, evaluation, and deployment, ensuring solutions are robust, secure, and dependable for SAF operations
• Foster a collaborative environment that values teamwork, learning, and mission focusChallenge(s)
• Maintaining in-depth understanding of AI/ML and languages like Python
• Staying acquainted with the latest AI/ML technologies and understanding their application and impact to ensure the deployment of AI/ML tools is beneficial to the SAF

What we are looking for:

• Education in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience is preferred
• Proficiency in data science or machine learning frameworks, with hands‑on experience in programming languages such as Python
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and model training, evaluation, and deployment methodologies
