Job Description / Duties:

We are seeking a Research Engineerspecializing in flight planning software for drones conducting facade inspections. You will develop advanced algorithms for route planning, optimization, and swarming using off-the-shelf drone platforms, with the potential to integrate LiDAR sensors and 4G communicationdongles. The role involves significant fieldwork and hands-on experience in real-world drone operations. The ultimate goal is to develop a Ground Control Station (GCS) for managing drone fleets efficiently in inspection tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Algorithm Development: Design and implement robust algorithms for route planning, optimization, and multi-drone swarming.
  • Drone Integration: Work with off-the-shelf drone platforms and additional hardware (LiDAR, 4G dongles).
  • Field Operations: Lead and participate in field tests and data collection for drone-based facade inspections.
  • Ground Control Station (GCS) Development: Develop a centralized platform to manage and monitor multiple drones during facade inspection missions.
  • Hardware-Software Integration: Ensure seamless communication between the drones and the GCS.
  • Photogrammetry & Machine Learning: Use photogrammetry tools and machine learning techniques to generate accurate 3D models from 2D images.
  • Geometrical Analysis & Mapping: Develop and implement algorithms for geometrical analysis, localization, and mapping.
  • Data Processing: Implement real-time data collection, processing, and analysis for inspection missions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including software developers, engineers, and operators, to achieve project goals.

Work experience/Skills required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in relevant fields.
  • Strong Algorithms Developments Experience: Demonstrated experience in route optimization, swarming, path planning, and/or geometrical analysis.
  • Field Experience: Hands-on experience in field drone operations.
  • Hardware Experience: Familiarity with drone hardware and payloads (e.g., LiDAR).
  • Photogrammetry & ML: Experience with photogrammetry software and machine learning for generating 3D models from 2D images.
  • Programming: Proficient in Python (preferred), C++, or similar languages for algorithms and software development.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills, capable of solving complex challenges in real-world drone applications.
