Job summary

Pathlight School in Singapore is the first autism-focused school to offer the national curriculum together with life readiness skills. It caters to students on the autism spectrum with related conditions, aged 7 to 18 years, who are cognitively able to access national curriculum but require additional support.

As a Teaching Adjunct for Autism, you will deliver ASD-based lessons, monitor progress with data-driven approaches, and collaborate with families, allied professionals and staff to support

Qualifications

  • Professional teaching qualification as stated in the ad.
  • Experience with MOE Curriculum in English, Mathematics or Science is preferred.
  • Ability to work with students with ASD and related needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan engaging and well-paced lessons for students with ASD.
  • Deliver lessons using evidence-based ASD pedagogy and meaningful activities.
  • Implement assessments to monitor progress and provide feedback.
  • Contribute to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment improvements.
  • Build supportive relationships with students and families.
  • Implement IEP/ITP processes and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Create safe, structured classroom routines and manage challenging behaviours.
  • Participate in partnership and stakeholder communications.

Job description

Pathlight School is the first autism-focused school in Singapore to offer the national curriculum together with life readiness skills. It caters to students on the autism spectrum with related conditions, aged 7 to 18 years, who are cognitively able to access national curriculum but require additional support such as smaller class sizes, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism.

As a Teaching Adjunct For Autism (TAFA), your Impact and Contribution includes:

Curriculum and instructional excellence
  • Plan engaging and well-paced lessons taking account of the diverse learner profiles of our students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Deliver lessons using evidence-based ASD pedagogy and meaningful activities, to meet the educational needs of individual students
  • Implement appropriate modes of assessment to monitor student progress by providing accurate feedback, and implementing suitable instructional supports to close gaps
  • Contribute to improve curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to enhance teaching and learning
  • Build a strong relationship with students by demonstrating care, concern and encouragement
  • Implement data-based, student-centred Individual Education Plans (IEP) / Individual Transition Plans (ITP) process for all students and support their attainment of IEP/ITP goals through appropriate strategies implemented in partnership with families/caregivers, Allied Professionals and other relevant stakeholders
  • Design and implement positive, robust classroom routines and practices to create and maintain a safe and conducive learning environment as well as foster student development and well-being
  • Implement techniques and behaviour plans to manage students with complex and challenging behaviours
  • Manage emergency situations to resolve any immediate safety concerns and implement required school processes
Partnerships and stakeholder management
  • Maintain communications with stakeholders (e.g. families/caregivers) to support students and/or school initiatives
  • Foster strong partnerships with stakeholders (e.g. families/caregivers) to help achieve desired education outcomes

You will be assigned teaching duties and other duties depending on the needs of the school.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Professional teaching qualification (i.e. Postgraduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Special Education from the National Institute of Education or equivalent)
  • Applicants with experience teaching MOE Curriculum in English, Mathematics or Science are preferred
